Testimonial – Nunavut Black History Society
Jesiwa B Fashions and its creator/curator, Phyllis Dadson Bourne have been an ideal cultural ambassador and partner for showcasing creative cultural expressions of the African Diaspora in the Canadian Arctic. The experience of working with Jesiwa B has shown us a company with extreme care and pride for African culture and its proclamation through fashion.
We were met with reliability, professionalism and extremely high levels of product quality. From the standpoint of Nunavut Black History Society, it has helped us to present high-quality authentically African pieces to the Iqaluit, Nunavut community at our ForUsByUs Community Fashion Show for Black History Month. The audience was educated and wowed with the experience of vibrant, yet esthetically-balanced fashion pieces direct from the continent.
Additionally, our models who wore these pieces had the opportunity to partake in African culture and were thrilled with the experience. To many this was a first and really helped to ground them in their identity as people of African descent. Most ended up buying items that they wore on the catwalk and commented on what a pleasure it was to have this experience of active cultural participation/engagement. We look forward to many more years working with Jesiwa B. Fashions on the ForUsByUs Fashion Show in Nunavut. They truly have a heart for helping the Black Community showcase their culture through the organization’s philanthropy.
